Reviewing passwords

I have reviewed my online accounts this week to make sure I have the best possible security in place. This is something I do on a regular basis. In many cases our passwords are the only barrier for criminals to access our online accounts – hence it is important that they are unique and held securely.

Two Factor Authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of protection, it usually requires a code to be sent to your mobile phone or generated by an app, to gain access to your account. If you don’t have this in place for your main accounts then now is a good time to do it.

Securing your social media accounts shouldn’t be forgotten, do all members of staff who have access to your social accounts have 2FA switched on for their accounts? If you have a social media policy for your staff, this is a clause you could include and check.

The National Cyber Security Centre has a useful article on 2FA if you would like to know more: https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/guidance/setting-two-factor-authentication-2fa
